On April 1, 2020 the Oshawa Folk Arts Council was advised by our City Council Rep Tito Dante that by order of Mayor Dan Carter all festivals have been cancelled leading up to and including Canada Day Festivities.
At this time we will not be postponing Fiesta Week as we had originally planned, but will be cancelling Fiesta Week altogether for 2020 as ordered by Mayor Carter and the City of Oshawa COVID-19 Emergency Response Team in consultation with recommendations made by Chief Medical Officers.
We need to be prepared and understand the expectation that a second wave of the Covid 19 virus is a possibility. The safety of our community is the main concern of this decision.
We understand that all the cultural pavilions will be financially impacted by this decision and I’m sure it was not made without regret and a heavy heart by our City.
The President of the Oshawa Folk Arts Council (Vanessa Ford) is saddened by this news but as a community member she totally understand the reason for this decision. She will be working diligently to try and find any federal or provincial grants that may be able to assist your pavilions and she knows Councillor Tito Dante Marimpietri is also working his hardest in finding out these answers for us. Any information that we find out will be forwarded to all of you. All membership fees will be returned. Ms Ford believes most paid by cheque and none of these have been deposited. Please let her know if you would like the cheque returned or they can dispose of it for you.
This is a horrible and trying time for not only Oshawa but the whole world.
Please reach out to Ms. Ford (Oshawa Folk Arts Council) or any member of the Board if there is something they can assist you with.
